Hi, I’m Annie!
I’m the face behind the blog, so to speak. I’m also a KidLit author/illustrator on the road to being traditionally published, which is what inspired this whole thing. Thank you for stopping by! My hope is that you will find a little bit of inspiration and motivation as you go through the blog posts. We learn from doing, after all, and what could be better than watching (or reading) someone else do all the hard parts for you!
Fun Fact about Me: I’m obsessed with all kinds of fuzzy animals and absolutely love making up silly stories about them. I think that’s part of why I decided to write kidlit as well as pursue the illustration side of publishing. I’m always inspired by their natural antics and find joy deep diving into their mannerisms.
Have Questions?
Frequently Asked
Questions
Can you illustrate my book?
At this time, I am not taking on any book projects outside of what goes through my agent.
Can you look over my portfolio?
Unfortunately, I cannot. Due to my position with Disney Animation, I am unable to do any sort of portfolio or artwork review.
How can I connect with you?
I’m fairly active on social media, mostly on Instagram. You can check out the social links at the top of the blog for an easy click!
Any tips on how to start writing or illustrating?
Never stop making art! Get yourself out there and connect with other people in the creative space. Remember that everyone has an origin story and we all simply have to START!
It’s also super important to never stop learning. That’s how you get better. I have taken multiple illustration classes and gone through several additional programs to keep working on my skills.
Did you go to Art School?
Yes! I took classes all through high school and then went through an illustration program at California State University, Long Beach. I continue to take online courses and never want to stop learning!
How did you find your Literary Agent?
The biggest thing you need to accomplish before searching out an agent is to hone your skills. Once you have a solid art or writing portfolio, you are ready to reach out to agents.
I sent out quite a few query letters after attending an SCBWI conference and attended a couple agent workshops. I found my agent, Lynnette, by following the instructions she had laid out in her query box. She connected with my work, we chatted a bit and we both felt it was a good match!
